The Danger of Worldly Desires - David Platt:
Notes:
- Revelation 17-18
- The greatest trouble for believers in America is not persecution from the world but seduction from it
- The Church has such little influence on the world; you can not tell where the world ends and the Church begins (vice versa)
- There is difference between professing Christians and not
- 1 John 2:15-17 - “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.”
- Repentance, repentance, repentance
- Revelation 1:1 shows the symbolism behind the literal meaning of all of Revelation
- Desiring more sensual pleasures and worldly material possessions than that of fleshly sacrifice and Godly ways
- Money in the hands of sensual, ungodly people is the biggest recipe for disaster
- Spend more than we have; save more than we need to; etc....
Once I get this I will be happy
- The more holy you become, the more you see your unholiness
- The subtle lure of PRIDE
- Sin always destroys - when we sin, we are like cows walking to the slaughter house
- The more we feast on the things of this world, the more our hearts will go numb to God
- The more love, delight, and commune with God, the less we will love this world
- The one who didn’t deserve sin was presecuted and died for all of our sins, fulfilling the atonement of the Father
- Jesus Christ
- There are two sides and a fence. Pick one! And stick with it!
